This is just the tip of the iceberg for an entrepreneur. (And we wonder why we are stressed?)

It's easy to get caught up in all of the things required to run your business. But where does wellness fall on your priority list?

I know what you’re thinking.

Who has time for that! I’m trying to run a successful business here!

I understand where you’re coming from, but how about we take a step back? Just hear me out.

Our newest Kajabi Hero, Randi Dukoff, has built her entire career around wellness.

Randi helps her clients achieve overall wellness with positive lifestyle changes before they get sick. This isn’t about weight loss schemes or hitting the gym until you puke twice a day. What Randi teaches is much deeper than that. She teaches her clients how to have the body, life, and relationships they really want at any age.

Today’s Hero is passionate about wellness, and she shares that passion, not only with one on one clients, but huge corporations to help improve the lives of their employees.

If this is important to big companies like Sesame Street and the Major League Baseball headquarters in New York, don't you think it should be important to you as an entrepreneur too?

So many entrepreneurs just do not take care of themselves. Because of that their business suffers.

Here’s what I’ll cover in today’s post:

  • How a shocking picture of herself started Randi’s wellness journey, and led to a successful business.
  • Why wellness needs to be a priority in your business.
  • How to get out of your comfort zone and still take care of yourself.
  • Plus some tips and tricks to incorporate overall wellness into your business.

Randi delivered so much valuable insight in her interview, so if you haven’t already, make sure to check it out. For this post, I'm going to dive deeper into Randi’s story. Plus, offer some tips and advice to help you get out of your comfort zone as an entrepreneur while still making overall wellness a priority.

How Randi Built a Business Based on True Wellness

Randi’s wellness journey started when she stumbled across a shocking picture of herself. She couldn't believe how unhealthy she looked in that picture. She knew she had to make a change.

She found a trainer and lost 32 pounds (and has kept every single bit of it off for 16 years.)

When she started her journey to wellness, she knew she was in it for the long-haul. She wasn’t interested in quick-fixes.

Six years later she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was so grateful that she made the lifestyle changes she needed to make before she got sick.

After that, she wanted to reach people with wellness before they needed to change. She wanted to help people establish healthy habits before an illness forced them to down the road.

After coaching people 1:1 she had an opportunity to present at Sesame Street corporate. She froze up. Out of fear, she let this amazing opportunity slip away.

But lucky for Randi, a year later, they asked again!

This time she said yes without hesitation.

Turned out, this thing that Randi was terrified of… She loved it! Since then she has served several big-name corporate clients including Time Warner, ING, and even the MLB headquarters in New York.

She was passionate about helping corporations improve their employees’ lives.

After a certain period of time, Randi realized that she had reached some physical limits in her business. When you are meeting with clients 1:1, or even giving presentations to big corporations, there is a limit to how much work you can take on without going crazy.

One day, someone pulled her aside and told her that she needed to make an online program.

She sat on that idea for a year without really doing much about it.

In 2012, she finally started her own online program. It was so challenging to set up and maintain that she had to hire someone to do it for her. Even then, the system went haywire and shuffled all of her customers and lists out of whack.

When she heard about Kajabi, she knew it was the solution to her problem.

She created a 6-week program effortlessly.

With Kajabi, putting her program together is so easy and reliable. Randi still meets with one on one clients, but with Kajabi, she can expand her reach help more people than she ever could on her own.

Is Wellness a Priority in Your Business?

Wellness is about more than having the waist size or number on the scale that you want. And it's about more than simply not being sick.

It's about not having to hit the snooze every morning. Waking up refreshed and ready to tackle your day.

It's about going out and choosing the foods that you want to eat without any guilt or shame.

It's about fullness in your relationships. Healthy connections, no matter what age you are.

Randy saw a huge need to teach wellness to corporate clients. But let's apply her philosophy to you as an entrepreneur.

Are you taking care of yourself?

Entrepreneurs are just as guilty as corporate CEOs of being workaholics; maybe even more so.

You're driven. You have enough ambition to last 10 lifetimes, so you push yourself hard to make things happen. But sometimes you push yourself so much, that you forget to make wellness a top priority.

One of the great things about creating your own schedule and working for yourself is the freedom that you have to determine what your working hours are going to be.

But there's a dark side to this isn’t there?

You know what I’m talking about. (For those of you who stay up until the early hours of the morning on a caffeine-fueled work rampage… yes, I’m talking to you.)

Since you don't have someone else telling you went to clock in, and clock, out you can push yourself past your limits without even realizing it.

Reach that point… You can kiss a healthy work/life balance goodbye.

You can't pour yourself into your business and clients if the cup is empty.

It’s impossible to give your business and your customers everything they need when you're not filling yourself up with the things that you need to thrive.

Here are some suggestions that can help you improve your overall wellness (even if you have a booked calendar:)

  • Stay hydrated. Keep a water bottle with you at all times. Nothing will hurt your productivity and your physical well-being like dehydration.
  • Don't skip meals. Your body needs fuel to run at its best. You could even meal prep on the weekends so grabbing lunch is a no-brainer. Make sure that healthy, nutrient rich foods are easily accessible to you while you’re working.
  • Make sure your body is well-rested. Sometimes it seems like insomnia is an entrepreneur's best friend, but pay attention to what your body is telling you. Take a nap during the day if you need to.

I love Randy's tip that she shared on the interview: If you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep, keep a journal beside your bed to jot down your thoughts. You can even use some lavender essential oil to help lull you back to sleep.

  • Move and stretch your body regularly. Sitting for a good part of the day isn't good for you. Walk around and maybe even do some stretches regularly. Invest in a yoga ball for your desk. Or maybe even a standing desk.

This is just a basic starting point.

When you make wellness a priority as an entrepreneur, and schedule time to take care of yourself your business will thank you for it.

Operating in a constant state of burnout is only going to hurt your business and your physical health.

Embracing Overall Wellness Outside of Your Comfort Zone

Wellness and doing things that make you uncomfortable can seem contradictory.

Isn't wellness about comfort? Ease? And lack of stress?

Yes and no.

When you own a business, you will not grow if you are only chasing what's comfortable.

As a matter fact, if you're determined to stay in your comfort zone, chances are, your business won't even get up off the ground because you won't even start it.

But staying out of your comfort zone as an entrepreneur is crucial to the overall wellness of your business.

So how do you know the difference?

How do you know when your body is giving you red flags or you are just uncomfortable with a new experience?

This can be a tough one.

If there is something in your business that feels heavy; like unbearable weights on your feet. Chances are, you don't need that in your business to be successful, and it will only add to your stress.

But if you have an idea that you want to pursue that scares you… Maybe it excites you to the point where it's really uncomfortable. You could be standing right on the edge of a breakthrough.

But in any case, don’t be afraid to pursue new things. If it turns out to be more stress than you wanted to deal with or just a flat out headache, you can always cut that out of your business plan or outsource it to someone else.

You'll never know if you don't try.

When Randi was given a second chance to present at Sesame Street after a year, she still was terrified.

But once she took that leap, she realized how much she loved it.

What if you try something new and hate it?

You don't have to do it again.

There isn’t only one way to have a successful business. If her presentation at Sesame Street didn't work out the way that she wanted to, or it was awful for her, Randi could have found another way to build her business. One that didn't involve presenting to corporate clients.

The beauty of stepping outside of your comfort zone is the freedom to play around with new tips and tricks. You are allowed to experiment and get a feel for what your personal formula for success is.

Getting out of your comfort zone doesn't mean forcing yourself to do something that makes you miserable inside.

For every marketing trick or business model that you hate, there are several more that you could try out until you find the perfect fit for you. Not only will you be happier running your business, chances are if you love doing what you do you'll be more successful.

Less Stress. More Wellness. Bigger Success in Your Business.

Every change that we make from the norm will be uncomfortable in some way.
